Life as an NYU Student for the Weekend

Since the fall of 2020, my sister has been an NYU student and is now in her senior year of college! In the duration that she's been living in New York, I've visited her 4 times with my family, yet I never went by myself to visit her. My family and I decided that it was time to go visit her alone! As someone who has a minor fear of flying and traveling alone, I took this opportunity as a sign that this would give me great insight into what life would be like in college. This past weekend, I had a wonderful experience given by my sister of what life would be like as a student at NYU!

Preparing for the travel date, I was super nervous yet anticipant of what was to come! I knew that the weekend ahead of me would be wonderful and full of newly made memories, so that made me excited for the flight. This allowed me to push past my fears of getting on a flight by myself! It turned out to be an incredibly smooth flight and I got there safely--after delays of course. The days were spent going to the Rocketts, the Met Museum, and a cycling class! These plans that my sister had in store for me kept my eyes open to what New York had to offer! It was wonderful to see all of the people live their lives whether it be her roommates going to classes or strangers on the streets grabbing lunch, I really enjoyed how people live life in New York. The last night, Saturday night, my sister and I went to her sorority formal that was Great Gatsby-themed! This night taught me a lot about the importance of making friends in college. The campus life and life beyond classes help me resonate with the idea of going away for college!

Overall, this trip taught me the wonders of getting older and going to college. I was always super nervous about going off on my own, but this experience allowed me to receive the comfort of going off on my own. Not taking action on an opportunity that may seem scary is a missed opportunity that you may regret! I am so glad that I didn't let my fears get ahold of what would be an amazing weeked and learning experience!

Miss Sparkle Pageant

This past Saturday, I chose to spend my day volunteering with the Serteen Club at Carrollton High School at the Miss Sparkle Pageant: a pageant that contains the special needs community throughout Carrollton. There are Little Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss, and Miss categories which separate the girls into four groups. Within their group, they are judged by about ten judges and are each crowned and given a flower at the end of the ceremony. However, there will be one winner throughout each category. Sometime during the pageant, each girl is escorted by a male member and given a description of who they are and their interests. This whole day was a huge learning experience on my part, but it is one experience I will never get tired of sharing.  At 12:00 p.m. all of the volunteers arrived to help welcome the girls, sign them in, and hang up their dresses so they could attend the pageant rehearsal. While they rehearsed, volunteers continued their role of welcoming contenders. Afte...

CAS Project Final Reflection - 5/6

As my CAS Project came to a close, it concluded a little over a month ago, I have allowed myself some time to reflect on my experience regarding the planning process and the implications of what led to my final results. It is safe to say that I am nothing short of proud of this project and I have the hope that it will continue on through a rising senior or another member of a club who hopes to provide the school with exposure to a clothing drive. My vision for this project was not only to develop a space where the students of Carrollton High School could shop from each other’s clothes that have no longer been used but to also provide clothing for people who may need extra items that they lack. Looking back, I admire the period leading up to the week of the project. I sought out all of the steps needed to continue the development of the project and had several planning days with just me and my trusty computer. I made connections with people and resources who were crucial in t...
