The Things You've Been Wondering About Allison Lowry

When it became time to write this blog, I was clueless about where to start. So, I figured the simplest, yet most informational, tactic to use is to go through my life in chronological order. And so it begins: My birthday is January 20, 2006. I haven't obtained a memory thus far until about 4 years old when my parents divorced. Throughout my elementary school years, I worked through a speech impediment that I over overcame in the third grade. In middle school (or the upper elementary school), I did CMS Singers, and I despised every second of it. I also started the band in middle school. I was first chair percussionist most of the time I was in the band. My time in volleyball began in the sixth grade. I started off as a middle and then ended off as an outside. I continued with club and school volleyball until the end of my ninth-grade season. I realized that it caused way too much anxiety for something that was supposed to be fun. 

High school is where a lot of things start to happen. I committed to therapy and have been going since early freshman year. I got on the freshman homecoming court. I quit the band after being on the front-row marimba line for the whole marching band season. I realized I should keep up with academics. Starting sophomore year, I began with student of the month and finished off with the Contemporary Issues in Education award. Now, we are super early into junior year, but I'm already loving it. I love IB and the teaching style it brings. Most students are hesitant to get a grasp on the IB program, but it is so worth it.

Now that my rant about me in school is complete, let us get on to more personal stuff. My favorite color is purple. I have TONS of cats. I have one sister and two (about to be three) brothers. My favorite way to spend time is to go on adventures. I love experiences and concerts. I adore Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, One Direction, and Elvis Presley. I love books such as Malibu Rising, Daisy Jones and the Six, Smile and Look Pretty, The Color Purple, Such a Fun Age, and much more. I love hanging out with my friends and family. I look forward to continuing my education in psychology and finance. I enjoy going to church on Sundays and Wednesday nights. My favorite shows consist of Stranger Things, The Office, Dance Moms, and Bridgerton. My favorite season is either Spring or Summer, but I do love me some winter. Christmas and Halloween are top-notch holidays. I find great happiness when I have to get ready for an event. Last but not least, I'd like to think that I put others before me in any situation.

    Great blog Allison! I definitely feel like I know you better even though I have technically known you since you were a tiny baby. I'm excited for you to be a part of the CHS IB program! I know you are going to do great things!!

Carroll County's Military Ball

  This past Saturday, April 15th, I attended Carroll County's Military Formal hosted by all of the county schools. This event is designed for JROCT members from the county schools to recognize special guests and veterans who act as role models for all cadets. I got invited by my brother who is a freshman at Central High School. He is new to the school and wanted someone to attend with him. I couldn't say no and I am glad I didn't! It was a great learning experience.  The event started at approximately 5:00pm. Remember that this is a very formal event so I had to wear a dress like you would wear to prom. I enjoy being at formal events, but this was like no other event I've been to! We started off the evening by meeting the guests of honor and shaking each of their hands. Miss Sparkle Pageant

  This past Saturday, I chose to spend my day volunteering with the Serteen Club at Carrollton High School at the Miss Sparkle Pageant: a pageant that contains the special needs community throughout Carrollton. There are Little Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss, and Miss categories which separate the girls into four groups. Within their group, they are judged by about ten judges and are each crowned and given a flower at the end of the ceremony. However, there will be one winner throughout each category. Sometime during the pageant, each girl is escorted by a male member and given a description of who they are and their interests. This whole day was a huge learning experience on my part, but it is one experience I will never get tired of sharing.  At 12:00 p.m. all of the volunteers arrived to help welcome the girls, sign them in, and hang up their dresses so they could attend the pageant rehearsal. College Visit to Alabama

  The University of Alabama has been a big part of my family for many years. My parents received their master's from Alabama and I have many friends and family who have gone there or at least applied to the school. Because college is coming soon and it is time to narrow down my choices, I decided to travel to Tuscaloosa during winter break to scope out the school! This wasn't my first time visiting, however, this would be the first time that I explored the school with a student who attends the university.  Our first goal of the trip was to get a tour of the campus. Because she had a meeting at the beginning of the day and our schedule was tight, she gave my friend, Amelia, and me a ride around the campus. She gave a really good and thorough tour around the school and it was very helpful in regard to what I should be looking for in a school. Afterward, we got lunch and had to shop, of course. No matter what school I will end up going to, I will have to know the best stores!...
