College Visit to Alabama


 The University of Alabama has been a big part of my family for many years. My parents received their master's from Alabama and I have many friends and family who have gone there or at least applied to the school. Because college is coming soon and it is time to narrow down my choices, I decided to travel to Tuscaloosa during winter break to scope out the school! This wasn't my first time visiting, however, this would be the first time that I explored the school with a student who attends the university. 

Our first goal of the trip was to get a tour of the campus. Because she had a meeting at the beginning of the day and our schedule was tight, she gave my friend, Amelia, and me a ride around the campus. She gave a really good and thorough tour around the school and it was very helpful in regard to what I should be looking for in a school. Afterward, we got lunch and had to shop, of course. No matter what school I will end up going to, I will have to know the best stores! 

Eventually, it was time to attend the gymnastics meet against LSU. We just had to go to a University of Alabama sporting event while staying in Tuscaloosa. Sadly Alabama lost, however, that didn't dictate how fun it was to watch the girls compete! The next day consisted of the same excitement of watching another Alabama sport! Who knew basketball was so much fun to watch? We got to sit on the front row of the student section and loved every minute of it! All in all, the University of Alabama is a great school to look into and to consider being your next step in life. I still have some more college visits left to go, but the University of Alabama has made a great first impression!

CAS Project: Midway Progress Reflection - 3/20

 Now that it is past the halfway mark for my CAS progress, I'd say that it's time for a progress check regarding the development of the project. Starting on March 1st, I made many fliers for my project and posted them around the school along with the service project that the Environmental Club is conducting called EcoSneakers. As a refresher, these products are intended to help those who have clothing needs and are lacking resources for clothing. I know many students at Carrollton High School would love the opportunity to explore what clothing options other students have to offer, so I took it upon myself to host this clothing drive. The Art of Crochet

  I'd love to know where my idea to do crochet for my CAS project came from, but I honestly have no clue. However, after I was set on it, I came up with an explanation. It is a wonderful outlet to get me off social media, and I could tap into my creative side of life. This past Friday, my stepmom had a baby boy. What is a more perfect gift to give than a baby blanket? To be honest, It probably won't turn out to be a blanket. I strive to make a three-by-three piece of yarn. It is very clear that I have low expectations for myself.  To get started on my crochet journey, I looked up the definition, "A handicraft in which yarn is made up into a patterned fabric by looping yarn with a hooked needle" (Oxford Languages). I was satisfied when the only materials I needed were yarn and a hooked needle. I was even more pleased to find out that they were one dollar each at the store! Now, where to start? Final CAS Blog - 5/6

  How can we make CAS more relevant to the real world?  I think CAS can be encouraged to be more relevant to the real world by incorporating activities the IB group as a whole can do that contributes to the CAS experience. We got a few opportunities to do this last year, but as senior year rolled around, group IB CAS experiences occurred less frequently. How can you better support an IB student through the program? You have done a wonderful job supporting our group as IB seniors, especially since we are going through a lot of changes in our lives with graduation and college coming up. I think the only support that we are looking for is just some motivation or assistance in our future lives beyond IB. How to prepare future IB diploma candidates with the requirements of CAS?
